Sleeping with Flies

art by Judy Zhao, words by Sarayu Kurra

evolution

an enclosure

brown with silence

concealing the shimmer above

they coil and writhe to wriggle free

to transform from a creature of

hatred

embers buried deep

for a foot for an arm and an arm for a foot

neither would one want to keep

if only the world were

a home

green with symphony

sleeping with flies that understand

a thirst satiated by company

and a starvation that fades with

love.
