Mimosa pudica

by Patrick Yuson

I rest calmly,

Letting the weight

Of my arms sit

On my bent knees,

Lost in awe,

Gazing at the sea of green,

Blooming into

The glimmering sun.

My curious finger

Reaches for its leaves,

And I am met

With a warm embrace.

Brimming with excitement,

I ran forward

Into the sea that welcomed me

With open arms,

A sailor,

Running up the hill,

To the grand, white house

Watching over its ocean.

However,

My gaze would not leave

The crisp, emerald waves,

Opening and closing their arms.

In this sea,

I felt at peace.

Under the warmth of the sun,

Perhaps this was home.
